which introduces the constellations of the Ainu people.
The Ainu are the indigenous people of Japan.
In the Ainu language, stars are “nociw” and the moon is “kunnecup.”
This program introduces the stars as viewed by the Ainu people.

On June 24–25, 2026, we presented a poster titled “Stars, Constellations, and the Universe: Traditions passed down by the indigenous Ainu people” at IPS2026 Fukuoka. You can view the presentation materials here.
The content is designed to be easily understood by newcomers, covering the Ainu people, their constellations and star names, their views of the universe and the world, the solar eclipse occurring in Hokkaido in 2030, and our outreach activities and challenges addressed at the Tamarokuto Science Center planetarium.
